I have never been much of a writer. When I was debating whether or not to write a blog, the following questions came to mind:
Well, I had decided that the answer that the above questions was a probable NO. But then I started thinking… What if I DO have something to offer? What if people want to hear what I have to say?
SO, here I am. I have never been the type of person to give up on a project before starting it. I am the type of guy that sees things through, and this blog will either be something people enjoy reading or it will be an excellent opportunity for me to practice my writing abilities. It’s a win-win situation!
I thought for my first post, I would provide more of an introduction to myself, Matt Gore.
I was born in Cape Town, South Africa on the 25th of October in 1987. And I know what you’re thinking – Yes, I was born with this fiery red hair. Everyone in my family is a Ginger, including the cat!
Growing up, I was a quite an unruly child. I craved the spotlight and would do anything to be in it (which often meant misbehaving). I also had an entrepreneurial spirit from a very young age. I remember collecting every last book and magazine in our family home and opening up a library of sorts in my bedroom. I started charging my family to read their own books! These attributes led me into the successful career I am in today.
As a youngster I was fascinated by the art of magic. I was amazed at the feeling of wonder that magic created, and I wanted to share that experience with other people. I was born into a magical family, you see. My uncle, David Gore is the founder and Director of the College of Magic and a magician himself. He mentored me from a very young age and helped to shape me into the performer I am today! To learn more about the college of Magic, click here: http://collegeofmagic.com/
I attended the college of Magic for 6 years as a student. After that, my career as a Professional Magician began. Working as a Professional Magician gave me the opportunity to pay for my post-secondary studies in Marketing and Management, which assists me with my business a great deal. I am forever grateful to my family for encouraging me to follow my passions and dreams.
My other passions include travelling and seeing the world. I have travelled internationally for business and for leisure over the last 15 years. I love immersing myself in new cultures and learning other customs and traditions. I have been all over Europe, Canada, America, Asia, and North Africa! My most recent trip was to Indonesia – but I will save that tale for another blog post.
After finishing my studies, I entered the South Africa Magic Championships and after a lot of hard work and dedication – I won first place! This allowed me to proceed to the next step, FISM Africa Championships. For those of you that don’t know, FISM is the international body of the world’s leading magic societies (to learn more about FISM, follow this link: http://fism.org/web/).
I remember practicing for 12-16 hours a day leading up to FISM Africa. I don’t think I have ever worked that hard for something! And it turns out, all that work paid off! I ended up winning the Title of FISM Africa Magic Champion – a title I still hold today. After that, my career really took off both locally and internationally.
Since winning that title in 2012, I have been continuously working and changing my routines and learning new effects. I am passionate about always learning new things and being a better version of myself than I was yesterday. I am currently developing my brand locally and internationally and am excited to see where life takes me to next.
Well, there it is. My first blog post! I appreciate you taking the time to read. Please feel free to comment or contact me with any questions or suggestions for my next topic (magic related or otherwise).
